Bayer Becker was engaged to evaluate the intersection of Buttermilk Pike (KY 371) and Collins Road, with the goal of assessing the existing KYTC-operated traffic signal and identifying opportunities for operational and safety improvements.

As part of the study, our team collected traffic data, performed trip generation calculations for anticipated nearby developments, and conducted a capacity analysis using Highway Capacity Software. Based on the findings, Bayer Becker recommended geometric modifications to the intersection, including the addition of dual left-turn lanes. These improvements necessitated the design and installation of a new traffic signal system. To enhance traffic flow, the proposed signal phasing included protected left-turn movements and a right-turn overlap phase to increase intersection capacity.

Following KYTC approval, Bayer Becker prepared detailed construction documents for the City of Villa Hills. This included the design of a new span wire traffic signal system, complete with signal layout, timing plans, and supporting calculations. A traffic control plan was also developed to accommodate the revised intersection geometry during construction.

In addition to design services, Bayer Becker supported the City throughout the bidding process and provided construction administration services to ensure successful project delivery.
