Pleasant Ridge Sewer Remediation

Construction site on a residential street with trees and machinery.

Spanning over 100 acres and involving approximately 140 residences, this project focused on addressing aging infrastructure, stormwater inflow into the sanitary system, and illicit sanitary connections to the storm network—key contributors to sewer overflows, stream degradation, and poor water quality.

Bayer Becker conducted detailed field surveys, dye testing, and GIS mapping to assess the condition of existing storm and sanitary systems. These efforts supported the development of a calibrated hydraulic model, which was used to evaluate stormwater impacts and identify cost-effective solutions. Our team explored both grey infrastructure options—such as storage tanks and pipe replacement—and green infrastructure strategies, including bioretention basins, rain gardens, and vegetated swales. The result is a balanced, sustainable approach tailored to the needs of the community.

To support public engagement, we developed customized homeowner information packets outlining inspection results, downspout connections, and recommended improvements. These materials helped residents understand their role in reducing I/I and improving local water quality.
