Project Highlight
The design services provided for East Viking Plaza by Bayer Becker’s Transportation Engineering department demonstrate the department’s ability to provide design expertise regardless of location. Bayer Becker prepared a traffic impact study and construction drawings for the Iowa retail project including traffic signalization plans.
Traffic engineering calculations and analysis provided in the traffic impact study consisted of trip generation calculations, intersection capacity/level of service analysis, turn lane analysis, and traffic signal warrant analysis. The results of the analysis determined that several turn lanes and a traffic signal were necessary at several of the studied intersections.
Bayer Becker had never been involved in a project in Iowa, so understanding the jurisdiction’s regulations and standards was important. To ensure approval, Bayer Becker reviewed and applied local standards and requirements to the project documents. During design Bayer Becker provided project coordination with the client, the local project surveyor, City of Cedar Falls, and Iowa Department of Transportation.
With the recommendations of the traffic impact study, Bayer Becker prepared turn lane improvement plans (as part of the site construction drawings) and traffic signalization plans.
Once construction of the site and roadway/signalization improvements began, Bayer Becker continued their project involvement, specifically by providing ongoing communication among necessary parties as related to construction activities and by conducting shop drawing reviews. Bayer Becker also traveled to Iowa to attend important meetings.
