Project Highlight
Bayer Becker’s Transportation department provided design services on Salzman Road and State Route 63 in conjunction with the Monroe Logistics Center project. Salzman Road, which serves as the entrance to Monroe Logistics Center, was a narrow roadway along the site’s frontage that was starting to crumble and deteriorate in areas. Bayer Becker walked the project length, observed the deterioration, and made recommendations for repairs. For the roadside drainage on Salzman Road, Bayer Becker evaluated several alternatives to determine the safest and most cost effective solution. Due to the relatively flat nature of Salzman Road and the adjacent properties, drainage was accommodated using a combination of roadside ditches and storm infrastructure. To properly provide drainage, the limits of the project were extended further than anticipated (beyond the project limits of the roadway improvements).
Bayer Becker also considered different left turn lane designs on S.R. 63 at Salzman Road to accommodate the high speeds, divided nature of the roadway, and expected high truck volumes. The proposed left turn lane on S.R. 63 at Salzman Road was designed as an offset left turn lane to provide proper alignment for a safe movement. Due to the high speeds on S.R. 63 and the anticipated high volume of truck traffic, attention was paid to the appropriate design tapers and storage length of the turn lane.
In addition to design, Bayer Becker coordinated with the client and the City of Monroe throughout the planning and design stages of the project. Bayer Becker experience with similar projects and familiarity with the client's needs as well as the City of Monroe's requirements ensured a project that not only improves access, but does so safely.
