Project Highlight
Christ Hospital’s new 125,000 square foot facility is the largest medical center in the network, outside of their main campus. The facility includes an emergency room and offers primary care and specialty services such as orthopedics, urology and cardiology. Designed with patients and families in mind, it offers a variety of modern amenities including an Express Care emergency, spacious rooms, hydro showers for expectant moms, and tech-enabled family lounges.
Bayer Becker teamed with the project architect, the owner, and the construction manager to develop a design that met the project goals while maintaining the established budget, which included a collaborative value engineering process. Key site elements included design of a helipad in accordance with FAA regulations, development of an outdoor multi-surface rehabilitation area, identification of accessible routes, design of a redundant domestic water service, storm water management system, and extension of electric, gas, and communication facilities.
The design team worked with the owner to create a dynamic campus that emphasized sustainability, variety in texture, color and form. The creation of a new campus relies heavily on establishing a clear vision that guides the execution of design drawings. As the campus evolved through several phases, it was essential to adhere to the guiding principles established in the initial phases of the project to provide a cohesive composition. The project included several specialty areas including a unique entry sign, a shared-use trail, a healing garden, an employee terrace, and a campus family shelter.
