Project Highlight
This one-of-a-kind development is named in honor of the late John Arthur, husband of the Cincinnatian who brought the historic case to the US Supreme Court to legalize same-sex marriage in the United States. John Arthur Flats is the first LGBTQ+ senior affordable housing option in Greater Cincinnati. The three-story building contains 57 new studio, 1-bedroom, and 2-bedroom apartments. With an ideal walkable location, the apartments offer easy access to the Northside district, McKie Recreation Center, and many other neighborhood amenities.
Residents have access to a fitness center, community space, outdoor terrace, on-site laundry, and parking. The development will also include on-site supportive services provided by the Council on Aging of Southwestern Ohio, Pennrose Management Company, and Caracole, the Greater Cincinnati region’s nonprofit AIDS Service Organization.
Bayer Becker provided surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services and worked to ensure that the property offers numerous spaces for residents and visitors to connect. The outdoor courtyard features John Arthur’s favorite tree, an outdoor dining area, a seating nook, and a dog park. The adjacent parking lot was screened with fencing and plantings to preserve the backyard experience.
