The 821 Flats expands Tender Mercies ability to house adults with mental illness by 27%, making it possible for the organization to help 201 men and women at any time. The 57-unit development spans 40,624 square feet with common kitchen and dining spaces, 24/7/365 security and support staff, as well as onsite health services and case management.
The development is the site of the former YMCA on Ezzard Charles Dr in the heart of Cincinnati’s historic West End neighborhood. The site was an incredibly tight urban infill site, so it required careful planning to fit all of Tender Mercies’ programming on the property. One of the most prominent of these features is a secure central courtyard for residents to connect. The design team was able to accommodate the needs and features that transformed the site into one that builds community and independence.
