Project Highlight
Bayer Becker’s ability to minimize earthwork quantities was a key factor in the success of Ralcorp’s new distribution center. Accurate calculations allowed Bayer Becker to control costs by limiting the amount of earthwork that had to be imported and exported to the site during construction. The overall site composition also influenced design. To help excavate existing rock a substantial amount of blasting was necessary. Because of the existing rock, design solutions were used to help minimize utilities being located in areas featuring extensive amounts of rock. Ditches helped lessen the need for underground utilities, but still helped with storm water management.
With a project of this size, controlling how it will affect neighboring residents is important. Bayer Becker’s Transportation Department provided services to help ease the impact to the surrounding roadways and the Landscape Architecture department designed a system of landscape buffers, including mounding and trees for the site that will help improve sight lines for residents. Having never worked in Oldham County, it was important to ensure minimal impact to the adjacent homeowners. By participating in local meetings, and understanding the resident’s point of view, Bayer Becker was able to alleviate any fears they may have had and design a successful project for everyone involved.
