Project Highlight
Market Square is the phased revitalization of the properties and buildings surrounding one of Cincinnati’s gems, Findlay Market. As is the difficulty with most urban infill and redevelopment, Bayer Becker was challenged to balance the ambitions and visions of the project with the current infrastructure. The design team collaborated to develop a strategy that would best utilize the existing infrastructure to serve the proposed uses of retail, office, and residential spaces. This included working around the new Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar, designing private courtyards within tight spaces, and ensuring full ADA accessibility for historic structures.
As Market Square moved from phase I to phase II, the same design and construction teams were retained, capitalizing on team collaboration, communication and allowing seamless progress. Bayer Becker’s relationships with the City of Cincinnati’s review staff and familiarity with the review process were crucial when the project’s progress required quick answers to complicated design challenges. Our team’s partnering efforts also brought value to the project in several areas, including working with the MEP consultant to utilize existing utility taps where feasible.
