Project Highlight
In early 2011, the Terrace Park Elementary Parent Teacher Organization & Terrace Park Elementary School selected Bayer Becker to master plan & design the new school’s campus. Yet, they were looking for something more than a modest vegetated makeover of the existing grounds. The vision was to create a school campus for teaching, abundant in educational opportunities appeals to students and community members. With this vision in mind, Bayer Becker worked diligently with community representatives to design a campus to match the vision, yet fit within the project's tight budget.
The final design took the idea of a campus of teaching and transformed it into a “Learning Campus”. The Terrace Park Elementary Learning Campus includes a variety of learning and teaching opportunities. An interactive sundial/council ring, amphitheater, rain gardens, and a serpentine mound were all utilized to teach students about geometry, local archeological history, solar patterns, mathematics, and natural processes. Native trees were strategically selected and placed to create a mico-arboretum to expose students to native plant science & identification.
Through community/faculty involvement and creativity, Bayer Becker was able to help the community of Terrace Park realize its dream of a true educational campus.
