Project Highlight
Bayer Becker evaluated the Buttermilk Pk (KY 371) and Collins Rd intersection, to study the operations of the KYTC traffic signal and to identify potential intersection improvements.
Traffic data was collected, trip generation calculations were performed for some anticipated developments in the area, and the intersection was evaluated using Highway Capacity Software. Ultimately, Bayer Becker recommended intersection geometry modifications, dual left turn lanes, which required a new traffic signal installation. In addition to protected left turn movements, signal phasing also involved adding a right turn overlap to improve capacity.
Once the intersection improvements were approved by KYTC, Bayer Becker prepared construction documents for the project for the City of Villa Hills. Specifically, Bayer Becker designed a new spanwire traffic signal including signal calculations, layout, and signal timing. A traffic control plan for the new intersection geometrics was also provided.
Bayer Becker also assisted the City with bidding and construction administration services.
