Project Highlight
Academy on 4th is a $37 million urban development in the heart of historic Newport, KY. It features 202 market rate apartments with first floor commercial space. The site is the former home of Newport Intermediate School, a historical institution that the new development references in its name, as well as retaining the original stone wall of the school.
The urban site posed significant challenges due to the extensive overhead utilities already present. This was overcome by notching the northeast corner of the building. In addition to the residential units and commercial space, the development features a secured parking garage for use by the residents.
Bayer Becker's Landscape Architecture & Planning department provided the design for the amenity courtyard for the project. The space includes pergola structures, and outdoor kitchen and bar area, a double sided fireplace, a pool, and an outdoor fire table. The courtyard utilizes pedestal pavers, synthetic turf, decorative gravel, a live roof planting tray, and decorative lighting.
