Bayer Becker played a key role in the rapid construction of McDonald’s restaurant in Oxford, Ohio. McDonald’s, a long standing client, looked to our firm for our expertise in site plan re-development design. For the 1.25 acre project, our project team responded to the challenge by utilizing an accelerated fast-track project delivery approach including rapid plan development, obtaining the necessary demolition permits and scheduling all of the site improvements during the few months while neighboring Miami University was out for their summer break.
Part of our design regimen is identification and implementation of real cost saving solutions. Some of those deliverables for this project included earth work optimization/reduction, as well as maintaining the existing utilities. These design elements enabled the site improvements to be built quicker and at a lower cost. During our constructability review process, additional project savings were realized by designing for paving of the handicap spots continuing to the walk level, eliminating the need for special handicap ramps and more expensive curb and walk construction. In addition, by our design, salvaging the existing storm sewer structures to drain the site, McDonald’s was able to avoid the costly time and materials to replace the storm sewers. As part of our holistic approach, value engineering, and creativity in our design meet. Our landscape architecture team helped McDonald’s make a big statement with beautiful site amenities such as decorative walks, outdoor seating, decorative fencing, and additional landscaping.
